A Corvette Tachometer that’s Perfectly Calibrated for You

a corvette tachometer thats perfectly calibrated for you

It’s one thing for your classic Corvette to look its best. It’s something else entirely for your Corvette to run its best. The first is just appearance: there are plenty of Corvettes that look absolutely stunning but are unable to perform on the road anywhere near their peak (if they’re able to go out on the road at all.) Here at CS of MD West, we don’t believe that you should have to choose between them. We can help your Corvette to look incredible while making sure it runs just as well. One way we do that: through Corvette tachometer repair and restoration.

A Corvette Tachometer to Match Your Corvette

Corvettes changed quite a bit over the course of their heyday. Both the exteriors and the interiors of these vehicles evolved significantly. As they changed, so too did parts like the tachometer. That’s just one of the reasons that we don’t follow a “one-size fits all” edict here. We make sure that you can get a tachometer that matches your Corvette exactly. So, we can repair, rebuild, or even restore any tachometer that was used in a Corvette from 1953 through 1974. That way, we can help as many Corvette owners as possible make their Corvettes truly theirs.

Tachometer Calibration: Tools of the Trade

To make your mechanical tachometer be as accurate as possible, they have to be properly calibrated. That means that magnet (or “the first worm,” as it’s also often called) has to be charged and discharged as necessary. The frame that houses the magnet must also be within tolerances. To make sure that the calibration is indeed correct, the spring tension of the speed cup has to be correctly adjusted. We do so using a machine that was specifically designed only for this purpose. We see it as one more way that we can make sure your tachometer is correct.

The Face of the Tachometer

Any tachometer that was in a Corvette from 1959 through 1974 has graphics printed on a metal face. To make our repaired, rebuilt, and restored tachometers as close to the originals as possible in terms of appearance, we re-screened the artwork of the original face. This screening process makes for a tachometer face that doesn’t just “look similar,” but rather, is an exact duplicate of the original graphics. That way, no one will ever be able to tell that the tachometer in your Corvette is anything other than the original, still running and operating properly.

Parts, Electronic Conversions, and More

If you want to convert your tachometer to an electronic one, we can help with that too. We can convert any tachometer except for the ones that were on 1963 and 1964 Corvettes. By that same token, we stock all of the parts that are used in these tachometers, every single one. Many of these parts we’ve actually reproduced ourselves to make sure that we had the kind of parts that met our exacting standards.
